International Bear News

International Bear News (IBN) is our tri-annual newsletter for global insights on bear biology, conservation, and culture.

What's on this page

Background

The International Bear News (ISSN# 1064-1564) was established on September 27, 1972, as a one-page newsletter for the Bear Biology Association, now known as the International Association for Bear Research and Management (IBA). It has evolved from black-and-white typewritten photocopies to dynamic electronic flip books. In the mid-1990s, the IBA collaborated with the IUCN Bear Specialist Group to expand the publication into a joint newsletter.

The IBN welcomes articles on the biology, conservation, and management of the world’s eight bear species, as well as book reviews and features on bears in history and culture. It also includes a Student Forum, highlighting student-focused content, and provides announcements for bear-related conferences and job opportunities. Each issue, IBA volunteers compile a comprehensive list of recent bear literature published since the previous issue. You can view a complete list of the references here.
