Habitat-capability models are necessary for evaluating the effects of forest management on the management of indicator species (including brown bears [Ursus arctos]) of the Tongass National Forest. Habitat-use data from 95 radio-collared brown bears on Admiralty and Chichagof Islands were used to develop this habitat-capability model. Each of 20 habitats was assigned a habitat-capability value based on bear habitat preference or best professional judgment. The effects of human activity and resource development on brown bears were estimated, based on best professional judgment, as reductions in habitat capability within zones of human influence.
