Traditionally, black bear (Ursus americanus) management at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks has consisted mainly of efforts to remove problem animals. In recent years, the ready availability of human food has been recognized as the real problem. The parks' current bear management program is aimed at eliminating all unnatural food sources in an effort to allow the bears to lead as natural a life as possible.
