The 29th International Conference on Bear Research & Management will be held in Pescasseroli, Italy, in the Central Apennines from September 20–25, 2026.

This region is home to the critically endangered Marsican brown bear, with only around 60 individuals remaining. The population represents both the fragility of survival and the resilience of recovery, making it a powerful symbol for the conference theme of coexistence between people and wildlife.

The conference will bring together hundreds of experts including scientists, conservationists, policymakers, and community leaders to share research, discuss innovative coexistence strategies, and strengthen international collaboration in bear conservation.

Conference organizers and partners have released an official press statement with initial details about the event. Stay tuned to IBA’s website and social media for updates on registration and additional information as the conference approaches.
