Great Bear Lodge offers grizzly bear tours from May to October at a floating lodge in the Great Bear Rainforest (British Columbia, Canada). With no other operators in the river system and a maximum of 18 guests, people can feel truly immersed in nature. Tours start with a spectacular seaplane flight from Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island, and include accommodation, wilderness-gourmet food and bear viewing. The floating lodge is situated at an outstanding wildlife viewing location, where an ocean fjord meets a productive salmon river. The 9 bedrooms all have ensuite bathrooms, and the natural wood decks surrounding the lodge are a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the beauty of the scenery. The hydro and solar powered lodge is in keeping with a commitment to low-impact ecotourism.
Safety is ensured by biologist-guides who are trained under the Commercial Bear Viewing Association of BC, of which the lodge is a founding member. Great Bear Lodge (www.greatbeartours.com) has been providing quality wildlife viewing experiences since 1999 with a strong emphasis on minimum ecological impact and natural history interpretation. The lodge is privileged to operate in the traditional lands of the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nation.
