International Human-Bear Conflicts Workshop
Since 1987, the International Human-Bear Conflicts Workshop (IHBCW) has been a unique symposium attracting a diverse group of participants who gather together to discuss all aspects of human-bear interaction and how we share the landscape. In addition to agency bear biologists and managers, IHBCW participants/partners also include non-governmental organizations, educators, students, community leaders, community members, volunteers, and people simply interested in learning more and being part of the solution of reducing human-bear conflict. The structure of the IHBC has always been an informal, interactive team-format where experiences, whether successes or failures or a little bit of both, are shared and communication is encouraged. In the end, we all come away with a better knowledge of new and effective techniques and how each of us can share and contribute to positive change. One thing is clear in human-bear conflict resolution; it takes the commitment of people working together to reduce conflict, coexist with bears, protect our resource, and better share the landscape. Proceedings of these workshops are also published and available to all, assisting us in that effort and allowing us to document what we’ve done so we can continue to build on our success.
