Conference Travel Grants

Travel Grants

These grants assist with travel to and expenses associated with IBA Conferences. They are designed to help increase worldwide participation by those working in bear conservation and research. The amount of money available for such grants varies greatly from one conference to another. 

The IBA Kalispell Conference Scientific Program Committee is currently finalizing review of abstracts submitted. A total of 284 abstracts were submitted for the 2020 conference in Kalispell, Montana, USA.

Now, the next step for some members is applying for travel grants either directly through the conference or with IBA. If you are considering applying for a travel grant please read the following information to see if you qualify.

The conference organizers will provide travel grants for applicants from North and South America. Please contact the Kalispell conference organizer, Lori Roberts for information about these travel grants. 

Applicants from Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania only should use the form below to apply for an IBA Council travel grant.  Please note that funds available from IBA Council to support travel grants are extremely limited. Therefore, you are advised to seek funding from other sources as most applicants will be unsuccessful. Be sure to indicate on your application what other funds you have secured or applied for. Preference will be given to those who have not received a travel grant in the past. The maximum award will be $1,000.00 USD but, awards will typically be less than this amount. If you are selected to receive a travel grant, your IBA membership MUST be current at the time of being awarded a grant and at the time of disbursement. If it is not current, you can  renew online prior to September 1, 2020. You must inform both the Secretary and Treasurer of how you wish to pay for your membership if it is not current. Travel grants will NOT be awarded prior to the conference. Attendance at the conference must be confirmed before funds are disbursed.

The application period is open now and will close on 31 March 2020 at 23:59 Eastern Daylight Time. Applicants will be notified by 30th April 2020 and early registration for the conference closes on 31 May, 2020.
